Abstract | |||
An NCI Monograph is being prepared to describe the risk of developing a second cancer. The Monograph incorporates information from the NCI's SEER registries of more than 2 million U.S. cancer survivors (1973-2000), of whom nearly 9% have developed a new malignancy. The analyses will identify patient groups at increased risk for a secondary malignancy that may benefit from more widespread and focused medical follow-up, including those long-term survivors with heightened risks related to initial treatment. In November 2003 a new tool to perform multiple primary cancer analyses was added to NCI's existing SEER*Stat program (SIR module) to allow intramural and extramural scientists to explore links between cancers. |
