Abstract | |||
"""Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) is the cause of a subset of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas mainly occurring in the oropharynx. To describe the epidemiology of oral HPV infection among healthy adult men, oral rinse/gargle specimens and questionnaire data were collected from ~ 4000 healthy men aged 18 to 70 (median age 32 years), every six months for 4 years, evenly distributed across the United States (US), Mexico, and Brazil. DNA was extracted using the Qiagen BioRobot MDx Automated DNA Purification Protocol (QIAmp Media MDx Protocol); Roche Linear Array was used to detect 37 HPV types, of which, HPV16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59 and 66 were considered carcinogenic. Using these data, we will investigate oral HPV infection prevalence and type-specific persistence among healthy men from three countires. Additional aims inclue the investigation of behavioral factors associated with oral HPV infection, and type-specific concordance between genital and oral HPV infection." |
