Abstract | |||
This protocol will involve patient assignment to receive a vitamin D supplement (e.g., 400-500 ug/day for 4 weeks) or placebo when they enter a prostate imaging study protocol. Blood and urine samples will be collected both before and after supplementation, and prostate tissue samples will be collected after supplementation at the time of prostatectomy. Pre- and post-supplementation circulating biomarkers of a priori interest including androgens/SHBG, VEGF, and metabolomic profiles will be examined. Relevant tissue markers that will be measured include the megalin/cubilin receptor complex, insulin receptor, VDR, AR, inflammation, and proliferation markers. Our clinical collaborators at the NIH Clinical Center will be Drs. Peter Pinto and Marston Linehan (NCI CCR). |
