Abstract | |||
We study genetic factors that affect susceptiblity and outcomes to viral infection in the Urban Health Study (UHS) and, through collaboration, other cohorts. UHS subjects are an ethnically diverse population of injection drug users (IDUs) from San Francisco. These IDUs are at high risk of infection for hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), which are important causes of hepatocellular carcinoma. The purpose of the study is to discover genetic polymorphisms that alter the risk of HBV or HCV infection. |
