Abstract | |||
This project has two components: 1) A multi-center collaborative case-control study to investigate genetic risk factors for multiple myeloma (MM). A total of 3,400 Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) selected in approximately 960 candidate genes on a ýBank on a Cureý (BOAC) project, focusing on coding SNPs and SNPs in regulatory regions were assayed. The project involve over 2500 MM cases from clinical trials held within the UK (1228), US (697) and Netherlands (670). The control population sets consisted of UK Wellcome Trust Case-Control Consortium 2 (WTCCC2) study comprising of 3,000 individuals from the 1958 British Birth Cohort and the UK Blood Service collections, genotyped on both the Illumina 1.2M Duo (Human1-2M-DuoCustom_v1) chip and the Affymetrix v6.0; 2350 Caucasian controls [Nursesý Health Study (NHS), Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial (PLCO) from US, genotyped on Illumina 317K plus 240K; and 5974 Dutch >55yrs old population controls were available from the Erasmus Rotterdam Health for the Elderly (ERGO) genotyped on the Illumina 550K. 2) A case-controls study of 450 MM cases and 350 spouse controls with questionnaire data. |
