Abstract | |||
Unlike previous studies of groups at risk for HIV/AIDS, the 2500 subjects who enrolled in the Branch+s AIDS Cancer Cohort Study included substantial numbers of injection drug users, women, Blacks, and Hispanics in addition to white homosexual men. The Branch has completed KSHV/HHV8 serological testing and is analyzing data that will clarify whether injection drug use, alcohol drinking, tobacco smoking, or blood transfusion are associated with KS or KSHV/HHV8 seroprevalence. We are currently validating bead-based multiplex assays for plasma cytokine levels, and will be using these assays to compare prevalent KS cases and controls. If these studies identify differences, we intend to assess cytokines levels in nested case-control analyses of incident KS cases from the ACC and other HIV cohorts. |
