Abstract | |||
This case-control study will examine reasons for the high risk of stomach cancer among Polish Americans, and changes in lifestyle, particularly diet, among Polish migrants that may contribute to their reduced rates relative to those of their home country. A pre-coded questionnaire will be used to elicit detailed information on demographic background, ethnic origin, diet, tobacco and alcohol use, residential and occupational histories, and history of selected medical conditions and drug use. In addition, 30ml of blood will be collected to be used for assay of antibodies to Helicobacter pylori, serum pepsinogen and selected nutrient levels, and stored for future analysis of genetic polymorphisms. |
