Abstract | |||
This study involves collaborations with the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), a national organization dedicated to clinical research in the field of gynecologic cancer. Within a large endometrial cancer trial, we have administered an epidemiologic questionnaire to trial participants in order to identify risk factors for particular case subgroups. A recent analysis has shown substantial heterogeneity according to histology, with evidence that risk factors for aggressive cancers, including grade 3 endometrioid cancers, differ from lower grade endometrioid cancers. Of note, patients with serous cancers and carcinosarcomas more frequently had breast cancer histories and tamoxifen treatment. We are currently assessing, within the histologic subtypes, whether other clinical parameters (e.g., stage) provide further etiologic heterogeneity according to risk factors. Risk factors are also being examined in relation to disease recurrence and mortality." |
